(From the back of tape box #1)
Utena has it all. Beauty. Confidence. She is the idol of her classmates at the exclusive Ohtori Academy. And yet, she's driven by a faded childhood memory. A memory of a prince on a white horse who comforted her when she was grieving over her
parents' death, and who presented her a strange signet ring emblazoned with a rose crest. This memory drives her to do the impossible; To become a prince herself who can protect a princess in need.
Utena's dream is about to become reality. The Ohtori Academy is ruled by the elite of the student council. all of whom bear similar rings to Utena's. They meet secretly, fighting duels to possess a power embodied in a mysterious girl. Without realizing it, Utena is soon caught up in a mysterious struggle.
(From the back of the tape box #2)
Since stumbling into the secret world of the Duelists at Ohtori Academy, Utena's had nothing but trouble. Not only
is she "engaged" to the mysterious Anthy Himemya, but other members of the school's student council are challenging her power.
First, Utena deals with a delusional boy genius. Utena doesn't want to fight him, but she's left with no other choice. Next, she'll have to figure out why someone is trying to kill the younger sister of the Student Council President, and why almost all of the attacks
seems to involve animals.
Next Council Member Juri (Yay!) has challenged Utena, and this time, it may take a miracle for Utena to win. (Personally, I think that this duel was by far the best duel overall. This was the only match that Utena actually lost, despite the fact that Juri's rose was
knocked off first. Juri clearly had the win sealed. You've just gotta see it to understand.)
(From the back of tape box 3)
Ever have one of *those* days? The kind of day where you can't seem to get a handle on what's happening around you? Not only does Utena have to duel the Student Council for a power she's not even sure exists, but now she has to deal with... Explosive Curry.
(Personally, I like Ramen. But this was a funny episode. But still, Surfing Elephants?)
The struggle for Anthy and the Sword of Dios has moved into a dangerous new phase. Saionji us ready to make another try for her, and his twisted love is driving him towards a dangerous decision.
Nanami returns, livid that her beloved brother was injured, blaming Utena. Filled with revenge, Nanami reveals a dark side that could make her the deadliest duelist of all. (Not really, but she's still a favorite character::chuckles::)
Utena never wanted to be a Duelist. She came to Ohtori Academy in pursuit of the mysterious Prince from her past, not to fight for possession of the Rose Bride. The problem is that she's grown accustomed to defeating her opponents on the Student Council.
Touga Kiryuu, the President of the Council, is her next opponent - his strategy is simple: He's convinced Utena that HE is her long-lost prince. How can Utena possibly fight the one person she most longs to find?
For the first time in her life, Utena has her confidence stripped away, and she may never be the same. The outcome of this final duel is to determine who Utena really is. (Luckily for us, the Ever Lovely Wakaba was there to set little miss pink hair straight. ;) )
Okay now. In my personal, humble opinion, Revolutionary Girl Utena is probably one of the best Anime I've seen, and I have to thank my friend Karen for introducing me to this one. It has alot of elements from the area I roleplay on in it. Or at least
I think so. And who can't love A-ko and B-ko, the Shadow Play Girls? They add an element to the series that is different from all others
I've seen. This series is truly a work of art and definately a must
see.
